5 Gift Rule Christmas: Want, Need, Wear & Read Best of 2022

This is one of the most important gifts since it will ensure that your child’s Christmas is merry and bright. They were excited to be part of the decision making process. Then they played with their favourite things and the rest ended up mixed into a pile of wrapping paper on the floor. I didn’t want that to happen again, so I decided to adapt the Four Gifts of Christmas Rule. Something creative can be as simple as a set of colored pencils or as sophisticated as a sewing machine. When I was a kid I HATED getting clothes for Christmas.

Not only did I not waste my money on the little “it” toys of the season , but I kept my home from overflowing with a bunch of toys that my kids never play with. My kids were all happy with their gifts, and I didn’t spend the whole month of December searching and stressing for all the presents on their list. I mentioned my children will each get a special letter from Santa this year.

You do not mind because you love your children and want to pamper them. However, happiness is not in the material things and showering your children with gifts might turn them into adults who take everything for granted. Since having kids I share many parents' desire to make it a magical time for them. And while a book makes a lovely present, if yours is a household that is filled with reading then there may be no need to follow a prescribed format for when and how to provide books.

Whether your child is into picture books or chapter books, there are so many options available. You can also get creative and provide magazines, graphic novels or even an e-reader of their own. The 4 gift Christmas rule or any variation of it, is likely to become a family Christmas tradition. You don’t have to follow it closely every single year or for every occasion but it gives you a nice guide to follow. It really removes so much stress from the gift buy process and can free up so much time for you to enjoy more Christmas activities with your family.

The Kid Approved Change To The 4 Gift Rule For Christmas

I was a good girl and dutifully expressed gratitude, but deep down inside I was disappointed with the gift. Receiving gifts at Christmas is exciting and fun… at first. Christmas morning saw five excited boys gathered around the tree. The gift giving began and there was much ripping of paper and excited responses. The joy lasted about five minutes and then I noticed something was happening.

My bookFinding Simplicitygives you a easy system that empowers you to take back your life.Click here for more information. You might choose a basic Lego set or a snap circuit kit that can make working electronic devices. However, I CAN NOT embrace the, “Something to wear” category. The simple truth is that our bodies and brains are wired for moderation. Moderation is good for us physically, emotionally and mentally.

What is the Four Gift rule?

Everyone had gone to town and there were dozens of gifts for each child. It’s amazing how excited grown people can get about a random pile of gifts (and I count myself in that excitable group!). I’ve heard this before and really want to try it with niece and nephews. We buy an experience sometime throughout the year and get an entire day to spend with one another versus just one big item. This is one of my favorite parts of our new 5 Gift Rule Christmas – adding on a sixth rule where each of my children shares what would be meaningful to them for our family to do together. Our kids look forward to the meaningful experiences of giving and doing nice acts of kindness for others, more than they do the gifts they receive.

Her opinions are always her own, but let's be honest, they're usually always right. You can find more of her work on Mommyish, Care, and Mommy Nearest. Younger children may need help to go through each category, but older children can fill it out independently. Creative play involves any toy/item that encourages creative expression and sparks the imagination. This kind of play is often self-initiated and self-directed. I would like to suggest that it is time for a change.

Other years they don’t seem to really want anything. Family Education is part of the Sandbox Learning family of educational reference sites for parents, teachers, and students. Ps- On top of the four gifts for Christmas, we will also be filling stockings. These will be small gifts – you can check out our 50+ Stocking Stuffer Ideas here. While a lot of people have different views and opinions on what a “need” gift is, this item is something your child needs . One of our daughters has on multiple occasions said that she’ll be happy with whatever she gets because she already has the best gift – her family. No joke, this is what she said to Santa Claus when she sat on his lap during our SeaWorld Christmas Celebration trip. So, for that reason, I wanted to share an alternative idea of 4 gifts for Christmas. You may have heard of the Four Gift Rule for Christmas, but I want to share a new way to give Four Gifts for Christmas that might be a little more meaningful & special this Christmas season. Our family “believes” so we always give a Santa gift even to our oldest daughter who pretends to believe for her younger siblings’ sake and because she loves the feeling of the Christmas magic.

The “Something to Wear” Gift

I wanted our kids to have an experience, a memory. Sometimes, things need to scale back a bit in order to appreciate more and that is what today’s post is all about. Giving them these 4 useful gifts will help them learn to appreciate what they have and not feel entitled or grow up to be greedy in our “give me more” commercialism society. I feel like I am stretching this gift a little bit, but with the way my kiddos are growing, it works out. Last year for my kids, I picked out an entire outfit, complete with a pair of shoes and one accessory. I always explain to my kids that reading can take you so many places that you have never even imagined.

After all you have loads of toys to balance things out. But if you move to the 4-gift tradition with your family, you want every gift to be special. We started the 5 gift rule for Christmas right after we had our change of heart about overloading them with presents, but we added in a special #6 gift last year and think you’ll like it too. I know some people like to do a whole Christmas book advent calendar where their children receive a brand new book over the course of the 24 days leading up to Christmas. Many like to giftchildren’s Christmas books for this. Science proves that experiences are more beneficial than gifts or toys for children, and I couldn’t agree more.

More Christmas Ideas…

This year I am thinking of giving them a pajama set, slippers, and robe all wrapped together as one gift. Gratitude Games Activity Book – Fun games and activities to promote gratitude. Some people use this option to be a gift from Santa.

Presents were packed so deep under the tree and every single one was for my two boys. The “4 Gift Rule” is a unique Christmas tradition to simplify your family’s gift-giving. Less stress, more grateful kiddos, and so much more meaning! This last category is more about experiences and allowing your children to experience something they haven’t yet. They’ll love to wear it, and you can spend quality time together teaching your little ones about beauty routines and the responsibility of wearing makeup. In our home, Santa brings one gift that they want and fills their stocking.
